There are things that, at first glance, may seem imperfect.
The surface isn’t perfectly smooth.
A delicate crack appears.
Subtle streaks.
The structure changes with temperature.
And that’s when I know it’s real.
Today, I want to talk about wax.
Not about fragrance.
Not about stone.
About the heart of the candle.
Why not a perfectly smooth surface?
We live in a world smoothed by filters.
Visually perfect.
Repeatable.
But nature is not like that.
The blend I create for Miyaōri is a conscious choice. It’s a composition of coconut wax with carefully selected additions that allow it to work beautifully with scent and flame. I design it to give a clean burn, good scent projection, and calm, steady combustion.
But it is alive.
It reacts to temperature.
To cold.
To the warmth of your hands.
If a room is very cold, it may develop delicate cracks.
If conditions change, the surface may no longer be perfectly even.
And I don’t force it to behave otherwise.
Wabi-sabi in its purest form
In Japanese philosophy, there is a concept called wabi-sabi — the beauty of imperfection, impermanence, and naturalness.
It is the acceptance that matter changes.
That not everything must be symmetrical.
That the mark of time is not a flaw — it is a story.
I could choose a blend that always looks perfect.
Smooth. Factory-made. Flawless.
But it wouldn’t be real.
And Miyaōri was not created to imitate nature.
It was created to respect it.
Hand-pouring is not production
Each candle is poured by hand.
That means attentiveness.
Temperature guided by intuition.
Time that is not rushed.
There are no two identical surfaces.
Just as there are no two identical stones.
This is not a mistake.
It is the presence of a human hand.
Wax that breathes
This blend was created to:
- carry fragrance beautifully,
- burn steadily,
- work in harmony with a wooden wick,
- avoid overwhelming a space with heaviness.
But above all, it was created to be alive.
Natural waxes move.
They expand and contract.
They respond to light, cold, and season.
This is part of their truth.
Is this a flaw?
Only if we expect plastic.
If we choose nature, we also choose its character.
A delicate crack in low temperatures does not affect the quality of the burn.
An uneven surface does not change the fragrance.
It is simply a visual trace of authenticity.
And authenticity holds more value for me than perfection.
A flame doesn’t need a perfect mirror
When you light a candle, you look at the flame.
Not the surface.
The flame moves. Dances. Lives.
And that’s why the wax is allowed to live too.
I don’t over-smooth it.
I don’t mask its nature.
I don’t correct it just to make it “Instagram-perfect.”
Because Miyaōri is not made for photos.
It is made for being.
A conscious choice
You can choose perfection.
You can choose naturalness.
I chose the truth of the material.
If you notice a small crack in your candle during winter — treat it as a reminder.
Matter breathes.
Fire is fleeting.
The moment is real.
And that is enough.
